Bodybuilding: Drew does it the natural way

MUSCLEMAN Andy Williams is heading for the top in the ultra-competitive world of bodybuilding – and he’s doing it the natural way, without the used of any illegal substances or artificial stimulants.

And that makes it a hard slog for Andy who works by day as a maintenance engineer at the abattoir in Saltcoats and then spends every spare minute training at the Glencairn gym in nearby Stevenston.

But all the hard work is beginning to pay of for the Dreghorn dad of two who has just achieved his biggest success to date – a third place in the lightweight class at a competition at the SECC in Glasgow – a feat which has earned him an invitation to the British Natural Bodybuilding Federation Championships at the same venue in October.

But the 43-year-old admits he couldn’t have done it without the help of his main backer and principal sponsor Gary Cooper of Spruce Timber Frames in Irvine’s North Newmoor Industrial Estate.

Gary provides Andy with all the necessary dietary supplements, proteins and vitamins he needs to pursue his bodybuilding career, and he also pays all the travel and entry costs for his competitions.

“I can’t thank Gary enough for all he’s done for me,” said Andy.

“But hopefully I can repay his faith in me by putting on a good show at the British Championships later this year.”
